What Now?

With just two full business days left at Nifong, you might be wondering how it is going here. And to that, I say IT IS FINE, EVERYTHING IS FINE. But as I was writing this, I was alerted that Dolly Parton has passed away and because I’m basically self-focused, I thought REALLY, WHAT ELSE?

I will say that closing a store is significantly easier than opening a store (minus the crying). We have moved all the merchandise to West and worked all last week on making that store look beautiful. So while the front of West looks great, the front of Nifong looks like a tumbleweed is about to roll through.

And while I felt a little ahead of the curve on moving, I realized that merchandise is a small part of the items to go. The amount of bowls, measuring cups, whisks, mixers, and more is a little overwhelming. And then we are down to the equipment and the tables. And all of my very big feelings about this, which alone will require a U-Haul truck to accommodate.

Here’s a short list of things about about moving:

  1. I logged in to change our address and forward our mail. But, the postal service website doesn’t recognize our address at West…even though it has been our address for four years. We’ve always just sent all of our mail to Nifong. And they use those big bank of mailboxes at West, for which I can’t find the key. Our super nice Nifong mailman said to go to the post office in person for help, but that sounds like the last thing I’m currently equipped to accomplish.

  2. I called our voice and Internet provider to ensure that we continue to pay for our Nifong phone number and have it forwarded to West. They acted like I was initiating a moon landing and said they would call me back. They haven’t. Worrisome.

  3. We did sell the employee lockers at Nifong and for YEARS, two lockers have been locked and we couldn’t remember why. So someone on Team PJP brought bolt cutters and we cracked into them to find 300 brand new pristine towels and aprons. And if you ever want to understand how Jean thinks, please know she’s the only one responsible for a hidden treasure of linens.

  4. Double stack ovens weigh 1,000 pounds. Did you know that? And when you suggest that we could just roll them up a ramp to a U-Haul, no one else thinks that is logical or as easy as you might envision. Still, it seems possible to me.

  5. I can’t even think of a fifth thing because I’m struggle to see the forest for the trees in the midst of this change, but I really hate ending on four. So I’ll just say that I think Dolly Parton may be the last universally loved celebrity, so what happens to us all now?
