Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So maybe you are wondering how we are doing over here and really, the short answer is:

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Objectively we are fine, but internally I would clock myself at a solid 2/10. If astronauts can see the Great Wall of China from space, I’ll bet you darn near anything they can also see my anxiety.

So let’s catch up:

  1. After last week’s post, I was IMMEDIATELY notified by the landlord that they do in fact fix roofs and I had been misinformed for the last 12 years. So I officially retract my comments about all the tenants making their own individual roof repairs. I was certain that I asked right after West opened and was told no, but apparently that isn’t true. So for Internet posterity, please note our landlord fixes roofs (but not windows, walls, doors, or heating and cooling systems).

  2. We are outrageously short staffed this week as the return to college schedules, apartment moving, sorority rush, etc make this a historically odd few weeks until classes start. So I’m closing alone at Nifong every day and it’s akin to sitting shiva in this location.

  3. Facebook Marketplace is the Wild, Wild West of the modern day. Someone asked me if he could use a credit card to buy a $5,250 double stack electric convection oven and then he would send his driver over to get it. Suspicious.

  4. But if you list 1,000 return address labels for a printer, no one ever sends you a message. Though in all fairness, I can’t even remember why we purchased those because I feel like you are either a printed return address label person or you aren’t. And I’m just not. (Though, I could see how maybe I thought I could be that sort of organized person at some point in the last seven years.)

  5. Someone left a wooden bed frame, a double mattress, and all the linens on the mattress next to a dumpster behind Nifong. Ellery immediately alleged it was a bed bug infection while I immediately assumed they couldn’t deal with Facebook Marketplace to properly sell it. It has been there for at least one trash truck cycle, so I’m invested to see what happens next. Let’s hope the mystery resolves itself prior to August 31st.

  6. At least at West, you get less weird dumpster activities because the dumpster is visible to passing traffic. Watch me say that and tomorrow I’ll find a dining room table and six chairs in our dumpster there.

  7. We were at Home Goods on Saturday evening and noticed they had copies of Elin Hilderbrand’s Swan Song in stock. And if you recall, the main character of that book orders all of her pies for her annual Nantucket White Party directly from PJP. We never tire of being written into a book and appreciate that it is being sold by a store across the parking lot from us. Full circle.

  8. And Elin, if you are reading this, we are completely available to come to Nantucket and bake pies in what I would assume to be your completely charming Nantucket kitchen.

  9. Except Jean. She reports she isn’t going to Nantucket. And honestly, are we surprised?

  10. Jean is 100% convinced all of our decisions about Nifong are the right decisions and that everything will be fine. I could never navigate this without her bravery leading me along. She never worries and I always worry. And she didn’t even know you could see the Great Wall of China from space, so she’s certain my anxiety couldn’t possibly be viewed from outer space.
