I Do Not Know

So, look at me…back twice in one week. I thought you might be interested to know that Jeanne extended her twin sister vacation and remains absent from PJP. They have purchased more Diet Coke since her arrival eight days ago. Thankfully, they have not uncovered the conspiracy documentary that they believe modern media is keeping from them. Today they celebrated my aunt’s ex-husband’s birthday with cake and ice cream and then drove past my dad’s house, whom Jeanne divorced in 1977 and has not seen in person in at least 10 years. In short, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON THERE.

I do know what is going on at PJP Nifong and it is this: our front door will not close. It’s just open a solid four to five inches all day long unless someone goes to the door after each customer leaves and pulls it closed with all their force and might. It actually drives me crazy. CRAZY. I’ve resorted to yelling “WE CAN’T AFFORD TO AIR CONDITION THE OUTSIDE”. Because we can’t.

And since this is not my first rodeo of repair woes in a Kroenke Group building, I know that the doors are our responsibility to repair (as are windows, roofs, ceilings, floors, walls, HVAC systems, underground plumbing, above-ground plumbing…you get the gist). So I called a few door experts who promptly said the door isn’t the problem, but the building is the problem. The building swells in the heat, leaving our door open and the UPS door stuck closed. Which is worse, really? I don’t know. I don’t like to air condition the outside but then I also don’t want our customers to think we are closed. Does the chicken or the egg come first? Is our wonky door worse off than the UPS wonky door? I’m philosophically without answers.

So while the door is annoying, the real problem is that it makes the store HOT. The air conditioner can’t keep up with the influx of the hot air from outside. And look, if you even look sideways at that thing, it will probably leak freon. If the HVAC reads this, it will probably demand a new filter out of principle.

I hold out no hope for a remedy, except the approach of fall and a less swollen building. Though I will be happy when Jeanne is back to be as annoyed by the door as I am.
