You have No Idea
Maybe earlier this week, you saw on social media that we dropped Jeanne off for her summer vacation with her twin sister Janie. A few people have stopped by the stores this week to ask how she’s faring and I’m here to basically say that she is THRIVING. She reports that they purchased 10 cases of Diet Coke on Monday and they are down to seven cases by earlier this afternoon. And that they have scoured the Internet for some dubious sounding conspiracy theory based documentary, but to no avail. (Thankfully.)
At any rate, remember when the days of Jeanne’s absence used to slay me? Happily that phase of my life - and of our entrepreneurship - have largely passed. I’ve gotten pretty good at knowing exactly what she would do in any pie based situation. Or really any situation, and that’s a gift.
So it’s been like two years since I’ve stopped by, but here’s what' is going on
We’ve just been making things and selling things and praying to goodness it all holds together. You would think at 12 years in, we would relax…but nope.
The rumor mill suggests that we are getting new neighbors at Nifong by way of a new-to-Columbia breakfast restaurant. We’ve seen no movement in any of the multiple empty storefronts around us, but gossip suggests it will be in the old Great Clips/Rosebuds/Southern Rose storefronts. It’s been a lonely retail landscape at Nifong since those stores and JoAnn’s closed last year, so neighbors will be welcomed.
But over at West? We watch that Nordstrom Rack progress with bated breath. If you’ve never restored your soul by spending an hour in the shoe section of Nordstrom Rack, you have no idea what you are missing.
We are selling a 30 quart floor mixer that we purchased off eBay 13 years ago and while that sounds straightforward, it isn’t. Posting on Facebook Marketplace is a journey. Someone in Canada asked if we could ship it to them. Sir, it probably weighs 500 pounds and I’m no expert in international logistics. I don’t even know if you CAN send a floor mixer to another country and honestly, I don’t want to find out.
Though last week, I ordered the wrong paper towels for our dispensers and now I’m afraid to list those on Marketplace lest someone from not in the continental United States message ask me if I can ship those over at little-to-no-cost to them.
So that’s it. Jean, if you read this, please don’t enter your credit card number on any sites promising conspiracy rich documentary content.
