Jeanne-ology: It's Actually Monday

Hi There! Jeanne surprised me by emailing over a blog post today. It’s been a few months and it isn’t even Thursday, but whatever. I’LL TAKE IT. Also, it’s very on brand for her to lay low for six or seven weeks and then pick a random day just to reappear.. If she visits me in the afterlife, I’ll expect no less. Enjoy! Rebecca

HELLO! It is Tuesday night and I have not blogged since Thanksgiving!!!! You probably thought I might have disappeared the last two months. I guess I do feel like I have been in hiding. (Rebecca editing to add: OMG - IT’S MONDAY, SISTER.)

The time leading up to Thanksgiving was rough. I came down with pneumonia and didn't really participate in all that heavy baking. Rebecca and the crew did all the orders without me. I missed Thanksgiving once before when Peg and I had our pie shop off Forum Blvd - again due to a case of pneumonia. (Rebecca editing to add: You know how everyone has a “thing” when they feel run down, like a sore throat? Jeanne’s is highly dangerous cases of pneumonia. Sounds right.)

{Here she includes an entire paragraph recounting our 6,000 tart loss in an epic December thunderstorm. I’m still in the early stages of grief and haven’t really accepted that happened to us just yet, so I can’t read about it. She wasn’t there to hang onto the tent with us and that’s good because it was cold out and she would have gotten pneumonia. Again.)

At some point in December, I cut my hand cleaning a jar and it broke in my hands. Five stitches later and the next day I was back at the shop. Well, at least, for a little while. My husband started showing strong signs of confusion and not knowing where he was. I missed time at the pie shop because I was busy with him and I didn't feel safe leaving him alone in the house. Some days he was fine and he would have several days completely confused. When Christmas arrived, my husband was feeling better and we all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. Truly a great time. Playing cards is always a treat for me with my family. A lot of laughter, a lot of eating and a lot of enjoying each other's time together. No pie shop talk, just family time! (Rebecca editing to add: My kids know the best way to capture Mawmaw is offer a game of Liverpool Rummy. Also, the perks of being neighbors means that she can just come over in her robe and slippers for maximum comfort.)

January is here and another bump in the road has come. My husband fell to the floor and was unresponsive. Rebecca and Jason immediately came over and a ambulance was called. He is doing much better and his confusion has gone away. They are still running test and I expect he will come home from the hospital in a few days. (Rebecca editing to add: Never a dull moment, so we are all happy he is stabilized and feeling much better.)

Rebecca and my granddaughter are going to Atlanta Gift Market this coming week. They were due to go last week but the situation with my husband caused them to postpone the trip. I am so happy they are going this week and they need to be away from the Columbia life to spark their creativity. Jason is also going but leaving a couple days later to meet up with them. I feel sorry for him, he has never been and I am curious to see how he likes all the fast paced shopping. Keeping up with Rebecca and my granddaughter is like speed walking or a good trot! Whew! Poor Jason! (Rebecca editing to add: He, like Jeanne, doesn’t enjoy shopping for eight hours a day, so we shall see how it goes.)
