To Do.

Now that Roots and Blues is in our rearview mirror, I spent a fair amount of time this afternoon making a to-do list for this week.  And that list is completely full of items that I've been ignoring on the defense of "yeah, well...I'm working on Roots and Blues and am VERY BUSY".  And honestly, there are some items that I've been ignoring simply because I've got procrastination skills like you can't even begin to imagine. Here are a few highlights...

  1. We have a fair number of Thanksgiving orders already, but we don't even have a designated Thanksgiving order form completed just yet...so we've just been writing them on last year's forms.  GULP.  There's so much going into the decision of what pie flavors we will offer and the logistics of how it will all work this year that it is very easy to ignore Thanksgiving discussions in deference to other tasks, like resting my head on the front counter and wondering what Kylie Jenner will name her baby.
  2. Amazon is offering a new program for small businesses that allows us to create a page that shows all of our favorite purchases from Amazon in case anyone is curious about our choice in measuring cups and wants to purchase the same.  Think of it as PJP endorsement on any given number of things, including ceramic pie weights and snail mucus face cream.  I've gotten a start on it, but have a lot of work to do.  Upon looking at the page so far, it appears I'm only concerned with baking and skin care.  Oh wait...
  3. We are narrowing down our choice of dates for the October Epic Pie Tasting.  While I originally planned for a Halloween event, I feel like a lot of people like to be at home on Halloween evening to drink wine and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.  (That said, I suspicion that the PJP Compound will see none to few trick or treaters but that still won't change my primary plan...to drink wine and just eat the candy I buy at the grocery store.)  We are likely going to chose October 27th but remain divided on the strong suggestion that we all come in costume.  Half of Team PJP is for costumes and the other half is not, so can someone else weigh in?  In full disclosure, Jeanne is a great costume person and as a general rule, I am not.  If we choose costumes, I'll likely be dressed as an overly tired baker.  Ahem.
  4. I forgot to meet the grease trap cleaner guy yesterday.  Which is how "call and apologize profusely to grease trap cleaner guy" is on my list.  I wonder how many other people wrote that sentence down today?
  5. Anyone remember that Elaine on Seinfeld worked for The J. Peterman Company and wrote AMAZING descriptors of products?  My mid-to-late 1990s self was completely enamored with that job because it sounded awesome to write super short stories about hiking boots lined with yak fur.  So then I started to think about the possibility of J. Peterman descriptors for all of our pies, which frankly sounds amazing.  Except I would need to write them all and maybe it is more difficult to write about pumpkin pie than yak fur, so perhaps the concept doesn't translate.  Or it might work because setting up a scenario for either pumpkin pie OR yak fur is a legit creative challenge.

There's more, of course, because the list of things to accomplish never really ends, right?  In the meantime, I have pumpkin pie to write about...
