Seems Niche

Earlier this week, we celebrated Jean’s birthday by getting a solid start on rolling the dough for 1,000 Jelly Jars due soon. And even though I suggested she take the morning off to rest her legs and enjoy more of her cake, she showed up here and rolled out another 80 to add to our count. (Primarily because she’s the best at roliing the dough for them and she doesn’t trust anyone else to make them as lovely as hers.). And even after that, we’ve only got 192 completed toward our goal. GOING TO BE A LONG WEEK OR TWO AROUND HERE.

Here’s our other updates since settling into our one-store-only location:

  1. Our front door lock stopped working yesterday. Why do all commercial doors seem to hate us lately? Luckily I’ve learned that the doors to this establishment are my responsibility and called in a locksmith. Thirty seconds with a can of WD40 and a $110 check later, our door locks. And that seems fair since I don’t own any WD40 and know nothing about locking mechanisms.

  2. We’ve had an influx of individuals stopping by here to sell us candy and banana bread. We decline, of course, but I have a lot of questions. Do they sell a lot of candy and banana bread to people working in retail stores? I guess so, or they wouldn’t take the time and energy to do it, right? And why banana bread, specifically? Seems niche.

  3. My guess is that we have 80% of West settled into a clean and organized storefront. The 20% mess lies in the office and back hallway, so the average visitor would never know that I probably have a solid eight hours of organization to complete. Most of it is merchandise, light fixtures, and displays from Nifong. Sigh.

  4. Would you believe that in our seven years at Nifong, our dishwasher ran 58,258 times? I would. On the day we moved out, Ecolab disconnected the dishwasher and chained it to the area where the gas meters are located behind the store until a third-party company picks it up and gives it a presumably unceremonious refurbishing.

  5. And would you even believe it is still sitting there? I drove by today just to check in and I guess I’m not surprised it hasn’t been picked up but alternatively surprised it hasn’t been stolen and scraped for metal. I feel oddly protective of our 58,258 wash relationship, I must confess. I guess I’ll check back in next Thursday and see if it is still there.
