That's Pretty Manageable

For those of you keeping track, we finally took two days away from PJP for the first time since last summer. We stopped by both stores on Friday morning to assist with the baking schedules, though neither staff at either store really needed us. And then we loaded up the kids and Jeanne and we headed south to Branson because it was the only place we could think of that was far away to be away, but close enough to not be too far away for two days…if that makes sense?

And as you might guess, both stores were completely fine both Friday and Saturday. Neither needed us, though I checked regularly. But make no mistake, a brief vacation was a DELIGHT. I really wanted to be worried the entire time, but I think I was so happy to have time away that I couldn’t even muster the energy to worry about it. And as Jason reminded me, the very worst that could happen was too few pies were made or too many pies were made and either way, that’s pretty manageable. Did you know so much overthinking could go into leaving a business for 20 working hours? (As a side note, shout out to Team PJP for being absolute pros and handling everything perfectly so we could have this gift of time.)

At any rate, here’s the highlights from the weekend:

  1. Jeanne hasn’t travelled with the four of us since our kids were little and not surprisingly, it was an adventure we all enjoyed. We went to Silver Dollar City on Saturday and she did not hesitate to ride all the biggest roller coasters with us, to the delight of our kids.

  2. And if you watched our Instagram stories, you know that she does NOT like lemon lime flavored moonshine. But she did buy two jars of regular moonshine, which suits her. (In my opinion, Gooey Butter Cake moonshine is NOT FOR ME. But moonshine tastings are worth it for the entertainment.)

  3. We also ate at Paula Deen’s, which she did NOT enjoy - we were all in agreement it was not for us. What really offended Jeanne the most was that there were enormous Paula Deen cardboard cutouts everywhere that they would place next to you if you liked. Please note: if we have a chain of restaurants and we are very famous, there will be no cardboard cutouts.

  4. I also used Uber Eats for our coffee delivery on Saturday morning to our house rental. Because Jeanne stayed up approximately six hours past her normal 6 pm bedtime the night before, she was still asleep when the coffee arrived and then she marveled that coffee just arrived magically. We spent at least 15 minutes trying to explain how Uber tells the coffee shop that someone ordered coffee and when to make it. She kept asking how I called Uber to let them know we wanted coffee. So, there’s that.

  5. And finally, we took her for her first hot Krispy Kreme donut, which she declared to be the best donut she’s ever had in her life. And she absolutely loves donuts. If you pitted her against a SEC defensive lineman for donut consumption in a defined time period, I would put all my money on Jeanne. So I don’t know how we went this long without her having a hot Krispy Kreme. It is a good thing we live out in the country and Columbia doesn’t have a Krispy Kreme, or she would figure out Uber Eats, I’m certain. Whew.
