Investigative Interest

So, we are back from our annual family vacation to Seaside, Florida.. And as always, I’m reminded that if I didn’t live in Columbia, I would transplant myself to 30A and try to sell pies to beachgoers because it is just so charming there. (For reference, if you haven’t been, it’s where The Truman Show with Jim Carrey was filmed. It is overwhelming idyllic.) Also, this year, Jeanne accompanied us. After listening to her say for the entire 13 hour drive down that she wasn’t sure if she should go because she didn’t like to travel, we listened to her for the entire 13 hours back that she could live in Seaside. WE TOLD HER SO.

You might remember that this is the first time we’ve left two stores as entire family, but Team PJP did great. Everyone pitched in by arriving early, picking up extra shifts, only texting us when it was really something to discuss and in short, let our brains completely vacate the space. Trust me when I say we appreciate each of them for that.

As for whether our brains completely vacated, I’m not sure it is possible when owning a business. We didn’t necessarily stress about PJP, but we did discuss PJP in terms of her business model and how it could be improved upon (because there’s always room for improvement and growth). We also analyzed every restaurant and business we visited, discussing all the aspects, from staffing to operational costs. Nothing says a small business family on vacation like wondering if they use Sysco or PFG for their food supplier. We were a charming crew, for sure.

(Also, you know darn well that we stopped at a few shops selling pies along the way there and back. We like to keep an eye on it all, no matter the distance from the Missouri pie market.)

And if this were a speech, here is where I would say my thank yous for the past week. Here we go:

  1. Team PJP: Total pros at handling both stores. I bet we could move to Seaside and you would never notice our absence.

  2. Creekside Pet Center: They take the best care of the canine members of PJP. In general, we are a co-dependent bunch and that doesn’t apply to just the human members of this family. We never worry about them once when they are at Creekside for the week.

  3. You All: As always, thanks for supporting us, no matter if we are in store or surveilling pie shops in Tennessee on the downlow with FBI level investigative interest.
