2022 Recap

Early each January, Square sends us a report that breaks down our entire previous year in one quick email. This email used to be my sole source of year end data. Now that Jason is here, he drops a literal PACKET of information about our year that is color coded and full of graphs so intricate that Square would be ashamed. Since I don’t know how to drop a pie chart into this post, let’s just discuss the highlights of 2022:

  1. We grew 31% in 2022 over 2021 sales.  We added a second store to the family last year and had an open mind of expectations for how it would change our sales volume. So, double digit growth in the face of a sluggish economy and subjectively defined inflation? WE WILL TAKE IT.

  2. Square tracked combined PJP stores at just a smidge over 45,000 sales transactions in the past year (45,437 to be exact). That's 18,000 more transactions than in 2021.

  3. I have no idea how many transactions is average for a small business, but 45,000 feels legit.

  4. Our busiest day of the week in both stores was Saturday. If you’ve ever been at PJP at 10 am on a Saturday, you aren’t surprised.

  5. Our slowest day of the week at PJP West End was Tuesday and Wednesday at PJP Nifong. In a lot of ways, the stores are similar…but in some ways, they are very different and this is the perfect example.

  6. Our busiest month for both stores was November, dethroning December for the first time in two years. I’m guessing this is the direct result of Thanksgiving in two locations.

  7. Our least busy month was January.  If January were a person, I would break up with January.  Dear January, it's not me...it's you.

  8. Obviously, our biggest takeaway of 2022 was the addition of PJP West End. But we also worked tirelessly to streamline ourselves, become more efficient, and work smarter (rather than harder). That’s much more difficult than I would have ever guessed. And either way you slice it, we worked so very hard in 2022.

  9. Our most popular pie was White Chocolate Strawberry by an overwhelming majority at both stores.

  10. Our top customer at PJP Nifong visited us 48 times in 2022. (In a PJP first, the top customer at Nifong is also a member of Team PJP. Actually, that could be the best ever endorsement for what we do.) Our top customer at PJP West visited us 44 times (and they don’t even work for us). At any rate, we couldn’t be more honored to have customers that have become our family. We are truly the luckiest to have each and every one of you.

Cheers to 2023.  And 31% (or more) transactions?  We're coming for you...
