Jeanne-ology: You Can Do It

Well, it has been a hot second, but Jeanne is finally back with her Thursday Jeanne-ology series. She has thoughts about Thanksgiving, Christmas, and big goals. Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursday readers! Just a mere week ago, it was Thanksgiving. I was so thankful to just be home for the day! I was proud we baked so many pies for our customers, but all the activity was bone wearing. On the biggest pick up day, Wednesday, I went into the shop and had to leave because I hurt all over, from my feet to my head! Rebecca had to lead the staff and order pick ups without me. She is a champ at handling service, issues, directing, and keeping everyone on track. Just knowing that helped me rest easier. (Rebecca editing to add: If I were in a body cast, I would NOT miss the Wednesday pickup day. It is the very best part of the entire Thanksgiving pie process and one of my favorite days of the year (now that we have it down to an art).

Thanksgiving compels us to work like crazy bakers. With Thanksgiving over, we now are in the throes of Christmas. December is busy all month long, with a lot of corporate orders, Christmas parties, and pie gift giving. I seem to focus on the shop and at the last minute think about my own family gifts. This year, I am a little bit more prepared. I had both the grandchildren to send me their wish list. My grandson sent me one item (I couldn't even pronounce it) but it was something technical (of course, he and his dad are both the same). My granddaughter also sent me one item! What's the deal? A wish list usually consists of several items and then they don't know which items they are receiving. It was much easier when they were toddlers. They liked anything that was tied up with a bow. As they become older, their choices are much more expensive. I don't know why they want some of the things they ask for, but as a grandmother, I really don't care about the cost or the why of the item. Christmas is a one time event and I want to see the joy on their faces. Gifting my husband is the easiest. His favorite saying is "don't get me anything!” I just ignore him and buy him what I think he wants or needs. He is easy to please and has never returned any of the past Christmas gifts. He is the first one I can check off the list. (Rebecca editing to add: When I was much younger, she would code all the Christmas gifts. We would all receive a code name that she would use to label the presents, except she was the only to know each code name and that was super fun…until one year she lost the master list.

Rebecca and I have set a very high sales goal for the year and I think we will make it with your help. To help us along, we have planned some special pricing and some great deals for the coming weeks. Rebecca will be announcing it soon, so be on the watch for it. Meeting our goal would be a great present for us and I hope you can be a part of it. We will definitely be busy the rest of the month. Maybe I should just get my family gift cards and call it good? Maybe I could get away with, maybe not. Only Santa will know for sure. (Rebecca editing to add: Definitely not. Gift cards are not her style. But big sales numbers and audacious goals…definitely.)
