Jeanne-ology: No Worries

It’s Thursday and we hit three big entrepreneurial milestones today: 1) we had TWO employees quit on the same day, 2) Sophia Carson, an actress with 20.5 million followers on Instagram started following us, and 3) Jeanne wrote a blog post. Never a dull moment, indeed. Enjoy!

Hello Thursday readers! I have been so absent in writing the blog. So, I will try to catch you up. We are deep into the fall baking schedules. We have filled so many tart orders and corporate orders! Thanksgiving orders are piling up and when Jason tells me the totals, the weight on my shoulders gets heavier. (Rebecca editing to add: She still holds a grudge against me for the 2,300 tarts we baked and sold at Roots and Blues.)

We have some changes at the shop. I have taken over making all the savory and quiche pies. I didn't realize how much the inventory needs to replenished! (Rebecca editing to add: Travis made all of it before he moved to Dallas and then Marlee made all of it until she left for culinary school. So at least Jeanne can’t leave and go anywhere. I don’t think.)

No kidding, I make savory or quiche pies every single day. I really don't mind making these pies and am grateful the sales add to our bottom line. But geez, cracking a hundred so of eggs and preparing the chicken is a lot of work. I am of the mind not to choose to eat chicken anymore. I also don't have the desire to eat anything containing eggs. I the only thing that appeals to me are chocolate covered almonds, broccoli and cheese! I know that is a limited menu, and the only time a have a meal is when I arrive for dinner at Rebecca's house. She is a great cook and always asking me to come for dinner. I do have a problem determining if I am hungry or not. I may not feel hungry, then Rebecca sets a plate of food in front of me and I become a pig! (Rebecca editing to add: She’s a very difficult person. If she decides she doesn’t like chocolate covered almonds any longer, Aldi’s will likely post quarterly losses.)

This is the first year that Thanksgiving orders will be picked up at our two stores. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. I try to take one day at a time and prepare as much as we can. I pray for good energy to carry through. I hate growing older and becoming more tired than I want to be! (Rebecca editing to add: How it will all go is the million dollar question. And I’m already tired.)

Switching subjects, my new floors were finally installed a couple of weeks ago and I am so happy with the choice I made. All is not finished though, the baseboards that were ripped out because of water damage have not been replaced. It seems they don't make the same size baseboard. I am trying to figure out what to do. I will let you know how this problem turns out. (Rebecca editing to add: Her floors are beautiful. A baseboard dilemma is a wheelhouse dilemma for Jeanne, so no worries.)

Life is up and down, new problems arise, creative solutions come into play. I tell Rebecca not to stress, nothing ever stays the same and enjoy the day while you can. Maybe I am telling myself this more than trying to give motherly advice. (Rebecca editing to add: She basically never worries about anything. And if she does, it is about baseboards.)
