A Real Thing

We are well into our eighth year at PJP and our growth as a company makes my heart so full. But even better yet, for the most part, I’m a little more accustomed to the retail world than I was in 2014. And we are so so so lucky because our customers are literally the best. I would lay my very life on the statement that we could NEVER be where we are now without our customer base - for all the obvious reasons, but also because so many customers have become friends and so many have taught us things, shown us patience and grace as we worked to learned to be better at what we do.

And as we encounter more and more new visitors to our store, we’ve realized that not everyone loves us. (Ha. Only we would have the expectation that 100% of people love us 100% of the time, but it is true - we really do.). On one of our recent Facebook ads for Father’s Day, a person commented: “I would never buy a pie from them.” And another person asks why. And she responds: “They are too expensive and I make cheaper pies at home.” So, there’s that. I had 2014 level hurt feelings after reading that, so I guess it is two steps forward and one step back on the taking things personally thing. It’s what no one wants to talk about in entrepreneurship, but it is a very real thing.

At any rate, here’s a few other real things:

  1. I saw a commercial kitchen repair truck today at our neighbors when I left PJP and I felt the empathy in my soul. There’s nothing worse than the wait for those repair people to tell you if they can fix it, how much it will cost, and how long it will take.

  2. Though, I would rather have to call commercial kitchen repair instead of air conditioning repair. HVAC units sense fear.

  3. This is a spicy take, but the new J. Lo documentary on Netflix is worth a watch. Say what your will about her love life, but I admire her commitment to her career because she has built an empire and is never afraid to try new things.

  4. June pie tasting tickets are available online now for pickup at either store - June always sell out super fast, before I forget.

  5. A few people have asked about Jeanne and her lack of blogs. She’s fine - she just never remembers it is Thursday unless I specifically inform her because details don’t matter to her. Goals.
