Also, It Snowed.

It looks like it is going to snow again tomorrow and you know what my emotionally fragile self doesn’t need? SNOW. Or I guess it isn’t the snow itself that is the problem, but the potential for a third day this month with no sales because of weather. February is about to displace January as my least favorite month. Let’s look at previous years to see if we can find a trend:

  1. 2021: We were closed for snow. OHHHHEMMMMGEEEEE. Also? I stressed about it. At least I’m consistent, if anything.

  2. 2020: A long-term employee gave notice during the height of a busy baking schedule, catching me completely off guard and I took it super personally. I said it then and I’ll say it now: employee issues are my kryptonite. There are a lot of benefits to Jason joining PJP and chief among those is that he excels at HR and I’m allowed to retreat from HR.

  3. 2019: It snowed. Seriously. And I was relieved that we signed off on our tax returns and we didn’t owe a billion dollars. Goodness, I hope the same holds true for this year.

  4. 2018: Someone called to complain that their baby pie was heavier than the listed weight on the sticker. I’m still baffled. Also, it snowed.

  5. 2017: We went to a surplus auction held by the university on a quest for tables for our pie tasting events. We didn’t find any, but Jeanne bought a $5 massive picture frame.

  6. 2016: We were debating getting a liquor license. We never actually applied for it because we couldn’t decide what we would do with it except buy wine for home at wholesale prices. And really, that is still a compelling idea.

  7. 2015: We received our first bill for the maintenance fund shortfall from The Kroenke Group. I was so young and naive that I was righteously indignant. Now when I see the ground crew picking up stray McDonald’s wrappers, I know an outrageous bill for sweeping is on the horizon.

  8. 2014: On this night in 2014, Jeanne and her husband were inducted as members of the local Elks club. After baking there in the fall of 2013, they were compelled to join right in. And then they never went back for any Elks club activities to my knowledge. Though I think it is a lifetime membership, so I think the opportunity still exists? Also, they got home early in the evening…because it snowed.
