Jeanne-ology: A Fun Day

It’s already Thursday again, though when I called Jeanne at 6:07 pm to remind her to blog…she said “oh, I thought today was Friday.” She is back to working three days a week and so while she was home this morning, I was making a raisin cream pie with meringue for someone. So, basically, she owed me. Enjoy!

Hello Thursday Readers! Another week has passed moving us closer to spring. I am sure everyone reading this can” wait to see some green grass and budding trees. (Rebecca editing to add: 10 out of 10 stars for a full week of no weather forced business closures. My mental health appreciates it.)

Rebecca just reminded me that today is Thursday. Good thing, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this blog. I returned to work this past Monday and it was easier than I thought. It felt good to be out and working in the pie shop. I feel a little guilty saying so because my husband likes and needs me home.. If it was up to him, I would never return to the pie shop. I can understand that because when you have been through so much illness the past few months, as he has, it changes you somewhat. A little unsure that you might fall, trying to get your strength back, and so many other little things that he is learning to do again. (Rebecca editing to add: PJP is happy to have her back a few mornings a week. It’s definitely a better place with her there. I don’t really realize how much I miss her when she is gone until she is back.)

We have pie tasting coming on Friday. Rebecca put me in charge of coming up with making most of the pie selections. Trying to come up with new types of pie flavors is daunting because we have had a lot of pie tastings over the last years. We try not to duplicate our selections because a lot of our pie tasters participate nearly every month! So, I turned to my antique cookbooks for ideas. That was a waste of time. All the recipes were pies that we make every day. The basics like apple, cherry, peach, coconut, lemon and chocolate to name a few. My next step was the Internet to look for unique pie flavors. After a few hours, I came up with some ideas. Hopefully, some flavors will be a hit and can be rotated into our daily schedule. Our pie tasters are very verbal about what flavor was their favorite and what flavors they do not like. That is what we like about these pie tasting events the most. (Rebecca editing to add: I always assign this task to her because I wear out with it. I did contribute one to the list though because I saw it on TikTok and it was a compelling idea. TikTok is a time suck for sure, but it pays off occasionally.)

Friday will be a very busy day, but also fun. I will be anxious to hear the final results of the pie tasting. If you have never participated, you should. You are missing out on being able to try twelve different pie flavors. Probably some you have never heard of! (Rebecca editing to add: A fun day, indeed. I even saved the inaugural load of laundry in our new washer and dryer for her. I’m generous that way. Ahem.)
