2020 Recap

Early each January, Square sends me a report that breaks down our entire previous year in one quick email. Either everyone that uses Square is like me and prefers that no complex spreadsheet be attached to the email to get to the real data…or there actually is a spreadsheet attached to the email and I’m just not savvy enough to open it and decipher it.  Either way, but here's all we need to know...

  1. We grew 48% in 2020 over 2019 sales.  That’s 48% closer to World Pie Domination, just in case you are keeping track. And closer to helping us make some big decisions about goals in 2021.

  2. Square tracked PJP at just under 24,000 sales transactions in the past year (23,912 to be exact). That's 6,100 more transactions than in 2019.

  3. I have no idea how many transactions is average for a small business, but rolling over the 20,000 threshold makes me feel legit.  And thankful for every single one of those 23,912 transactions and 11,104 unique customers we served.

  4. Our busiest day of the week was Friday, for the first time in four years. Saturday was our second busiest.

  5. Our slowest day of the week was Wednesday.  What?  I would have laid money on Tuesday.  This is why I never do well in Vegas.

  6. Our busiest month was December - a first in PJP history, as November usually holds top place. I will certify that we have never worked harder in a single month than December 2020.

  7. Our least busy month was January.  If January were a person, I would break up with January.  Dear January, it's not me...it's you.

  8. While I think I cried more at PJP in previous years, I know I worked harder last year than any other in my life. (Maybe that is the entrepreneurial secret that I’m late to arrival on? Less crying and just more working?) At any rate, I unquestionably learned more than in any other year.

  9. Our most popular pie was Dutch Apple, showing no change from the previous four years.  Chicken Pot Pie ranked in the top three for the first time in PJP history.

  10. Our top customer visited us 37 times last year (or at least used the same credit card 37 times…cash transactions aren’t included in the customer visit count.)  By comparison, the top customer of 2019 visited us 75 times, so likely our first pandemic impacted piece of data. But this year, we are voting you all customer of the year. Thanks so much for being a part of #WorldPieDomination during 2020 - we couldn’t be us without you!

Cheers to 2021.  And 30,000 transactions?  We're coming for you...
